How to

Care for your Flowers

When you take your flowers home, you want to enjoy them for as long as possible... right? While we do our best to ensure your flowers are as fresh as possible, here are some steps you can take to extend their vase life. These steps are especially important in the warmer months of Perth.

Flower Arrangement

1. Clean Vase,
Fresh Water and Trim.

Before arranging your flowers, make sure your vase is thoroughly cleaned. Bacteria in dirty water is one of the quickest ways to shorten the life of fresh flowers.

Cut 1–2cm off the bottom of each stem at an angle before placing them into water. This helps the flowers absorb water more effectively. Re-trim stems every few days for best results.

2. Flower Food

Use fresh-cut flower food, or alternatively, create your own homemade recipe. There are plenty of recipes online that work perfectly as a substitute. You can make a homemade solution using a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of bleach to inhibit bacterial growth. Flower food is highly beneficial to keeping the water fresh and free of bacteria.

3. Refresh Water

Fill your vase with cool, fresh water and change it every 2–3 days to keep flowers hydrated and healthy.

4. Placement

Place your flowers in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and drafts. Heat and sunlight can accelerate wilting. Cooler spaces help flowers last longer.
